We have responded to the DESNZ consultation on the review of the Fuel Poverty Strategy for England, emphasising the need for more targeted bill support – a social tariff, ensuring that all consumers can access the energy they need to stay safe and well as we transition to net zero.
We support the retention of the 2030 fuel poverty target, recognising that progress has stalled and that a new strategy is required. With an £18bn funding gap identified by National Energy Action in their research, we urge the Government to fulfil its promise to invest £13.2bn in the Warm Homes Plan in the upcoming Spending Review.
We welcome the fuel poverty strategy being designed around two pillars 1) energy performance, focusing on low-income households living in poor quality housing; and 2) energy affordability, ensuring that low-income households are protected from high energy prices and have access to a fair and functioning energy market.
