About Fair by design

Rebecca joined Fair By Design in December 2024. She previously worked at the Association of British Insurers first as the Head of Health and Protection and then as the Chief Sustainability Officer. Prior to that she was the Head of Policy and Public Affairs at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Rebecca is also the Founder of a social enterprise ‘I have a voice’, which teaches young people about how they can engage with democratic processes and supports them to pursue careers related to policy and public affairs. 

Maria is an experienced policy and programmes management professional having started her career in the Department for Business and also having worked in the private and charity sectors on issues such as consumer policy, energy policy and social justice and human rights.

Maria joins Fair By Design from the human rights in childbirth charity Birthrights, where she was Programmes Director. She also chaired her local Maternity Voices Partnership for four years. Maria is passionate about ensuring people with lived experience are involved from the outset in designing the outcomes that work for them.

Laura joined Fair By Design as Public Affairs Manager in December 2025. Before joining, Laura worked across the social justice sector, focusing on homelessness and young people. She has led teams working on external affairs, public affairs and communications, ensuring Government, Parliament, media and partner organisations placed the knowledge of people with lived experience at the centre of decision and policy making.

Frankie joined Fair By Design in March 2022 from Sufra NW London, a food bank and community hub, where he worked as a Communications Officer. Prior to this he worked at The Equality Trust, working on their London Advocacy Project and Equal Pay 50 campaign. He has a long-standing affinity for the work of Fair By Design, having worked as an Intern at Barrow Cadbury when Fair by Design launched in 2018.

Emily joined Fair By Design in October 2022. She previously worked as a Commissioner in Social Care for local government. Emily has also worked with a number of charitable organisations to ensure better outcomes and access to support for vulnerable people, including the management of the Essential Living Fund, targeting support to low-income families. Emily has a keen interest in social justice and looks forward to using her experience to deliver on the poverty premium.
